Aspergers: A higher functioning Cousin to Autism that has no speech delays and is characterized by some difficulty with social interaction, special interests, and some repetitive patterns in behavior and activity. an Example of repetitive behavorial patterns would flapping or spinning when Excited or Anxious about something.
AU: Alternate Universe. Most often used by fan fiction authors, but can be used by fictionkin who do not fully identify with their canon's timeline, be it subtly, or drastically.
Autism spectrum: There are many characteristics or traits associated with Autism, including little or no language, differences in social interactions, repetitive behaviors, sensory integration issues, fine and gross motor skill issues, gastrointestinal problems, food allergies, obsessive compulsive behaviors and anxiety. Awakening: A term used by the greater otherkin community to describe the moment when someone comes to terms with their non-human/fictional identity. If someone has already started their awakening process, you may hear them say something like "When I awoke as..."
Cameo shift: A (normally) temporary shift that is not related to an individual's kintypes. May only happen once, may reoccur.
Canon: The source of one's identity; the timeline, book, game, movie, play, musical, etc. that one's fictotype originates from. Also referred to as: source.
Co-front: When two or more members of a system/soulbonds/tulpae take control of their shared body at the same time. Also referred to as: co-consciousness.
Factive: A member of a multiple system who is an existing person, may they be living or deceased. Examples: Serj Tankian, Jen Taylor, Abraham Lincoln.
Factual/Factualkin: An individual, not part of a multiple system, identifying as an existing person, either living or deceased.
Fictive: A member of a multiple system who originates from a fictional media. This member usually is not the core, original, or host.
Fictionkin: Someone identifying as a character, race or species, from a fictional source. Also referred to as: mediakin, otakukin.
Fictotype: The character, race, or species someone identifies as.
Front: A term used by multiple systems, soulbonders and tulpamancers to describe being in control of a physical body. The act of being at the front is called "fronting".
Front-stuck: When a member of a multiple system/soulbond/tulpa is unable to relinquish control of their shared body in favour of another member, leaving them effectively "stuck".
Front-tired: When a member of a multiple system/soulbond/tulpa has been in control of their shared body longer than they are acclimated to, they may begin to suffer exhaustion if they are unable to switch out for another member.
Gateway System: A type of multiple system that is open and fluid in nature; members come and go freely, as if their shared body acts as a "gateway" that calls in members from other existences, universes, multiverses, and so on, as a central "hub" or meeting place. Gateway systems tend to be rather large in number as a product of their body acting as a multiversal doorway.
Headmate: A term used by multiple systems to refer to other members within the system. Also referred to referred to as: system mate, alter.
Headspace: A designated space within one's own mind, often created by multiple systems, soulbonders, and tulpamancers. Note: not every multiple system, soulbonder, or tulpamancer has a headspace, and they are not necessary to be one of the above.
-hearted: Usually written as otherhearted, or fictionhearted, as umbrella terms. To be other- or fictionhearted, is to identify strongly with an entity, without identifying as it. To mean that you are "x at heart".
Host: The "core" of a multiple system; usually the individual who fronts the most, or started the system. Also referred to as: core, original.
Kintype: A term used to describe the species or race someone identifies as. Usually applies to races or species from mythological sources, such as elves, fae, dragons, and so forth. Most often used by otherkin, but is also used by fictionkin, and therians.
Median System: A type of multiple system that lies between true multiple and singlet, with varying degrees of intensity. Usually described as many independent facets, that describe one overall being.
Memories: Referring to knowledge of events that happened to one's self as their ficto/kin/theriotype, or in a past life.
Multiple System: A term used to refer to multiple, distinct, and independent individuals living within a single human body.
Otherkin: An individual who identifies as a race or species from mythological sources, or lore. Examples: dragons, fae, werewolves, elves, gnomes, etc.
Past Life: Referring to another instance of existence (life) before this present life, usually carried by the same soul, or consciousness.
Polymorph: An individual with not set form or identity, who may shift through kintypes or identities.
Polykin: A single (singlet) individual, with multiple kin/ficto/theriotypes.
Shift: Mentally, or spiritually taking on characteristics of one's kin/ficto/theriotype, sometimes accompanied by "phantom limb" sensations.
Types of Shifts
Mental Shift (M-Shift): Mentally or psychologically taking on the characteristics of one's kintype.
Phantom Shift (Ph-Shift): Obtaining "phantom limb" (extraneous sensations of extra, or overlaying limbs) sensations pertaining to one's kintype.
Singlet: One mind within a human body; as in, someone who is not part of a multiple or median system.
Soulbond: Refers to a powerful bond between an individual, and an individual from a fictional source. Usually an intense emotional bond, that results in the individual being able to "communicate" with the bond in question. Also referred to as: bonds. Example: Foxy from my canon is my Soulbond
Soulbonder: The individual who holds the bond in question to their soulbonds.
Switching: When one member of a system/soulbond/tulpa shifts away from the front so that another may be in control of the body. Also referred to as: swapping.
Therian: An individual who identifies as an earthly, nonhuman animal, either existing, or extinct. Examples: deer, bear, dog, goat, dinosaur. Also referred to as: were(s).
Theriotype: The earthly, nonhuman animal that an individual identifies as.
Tulpa: A thought construct created within one's own mind by an individual that is autonomous, and has its own consciousness. Tulpas (or tulpae) can be created accidentally, but are usually created with intention. Tulpae are considered headmates, though not all headmates are considered tulpae.
Tulpamancer: The individual who is responsible for creating a tulpa.
